  • Founded by Rev. Charles & Mrs. Donna Berry, of the Sycamore Baptist Church, to meet the growing need for care and assistance for the area elderly.
  • The Vista Grande Villa name was derived from a reflection Mrs. Berry had on a trip to a beloved mountain retreat named Vista Grande—meaning beautiful or grand view. Villa was added to the name to represent the plans for apartments or cottages to eventually be built.
  • Ground breaking took place on September 27, 1970 for what is now Vista Grande Villa. In attendance for the brief program were local government units, as well as several area ministers who represented the Vista Grande Villa Advisory Council.
  • In the summer of 1971, an ox-roast was held on the property to acquaint prospective residents and interested persons. This event has become a tradition at Vista Grande Villa, held during the summer every year since 1970.
  • 1971: 4 models apartment homes were finished and ready to show.
  • Care Center and kitchen were first to operate in 1971; Apartments, game rooms, laundries and the All-Purpose Room followed.
  • June, 1972, first residents moved into the Villa apartments.
  • 1998: Extensively renovated and refurbished.
  • 2002: 2 Independent Living Carriage Homes opened.
  • 2002: 186 Independent Living Apartment Homes opened.
  • 2002: 53 Assisted Living Suites opened.
  • 2018: Presbyterian Villages of Michigan assumes management of Vista Grande Villa.
